Classroom Management

Having good classroom management can be hard especially if you are new too teaching or have a few troublesome kids. Here are some classroom managment tips that can help you!

Tip #1: Establishing Classroom Rules

Establish classroom rules at the begininng of the school year by showing a fun and memorable video like this!

Tip #2: Having a Win- Win Conversation with a Student

Learn how teachers and students can have effective conversations even when the topic is difficult.

Tip #3: Use hand signals and other non-verbal communication

Sometimes teachers may need to use hand signals and non-verbal communication to get the attention of their students. Here are a few examples of what you can do.

1. Holding one hand in the air, and making eye contact with students is a great way to quiet the class and get their attention on you.

2. Flicking the lights off and on once to get the attention is one of the most effective ways to quiet down the class if they are especially rowdy.

3. Try clapping your hands to get attention of younger students. This is a fun and active way to get their attention. It also allows them to pay attention auditorily and visually.

4. Having students signal they are ready by giving a thumbs up.

Tip #4: Have a Plan

Make sure you make a detailed lesson plan for class everyday. Having a clear idea of what you want to do each day will make your day easier.

Also, providing a daily agenda for your students will give students a clear sense of what the day will entail and what is expected of them.

It's also very helpeful to plan several lesson plans in advance just in case you to give a susbstitute teacher a lesson plan.

Tip #5: Add a Dose of Fun

Don't forget to make your lessons memorable by making them fun! When students are engaged and happy, they will look forward to your class and behave better.

You can add a fun game like jeopardy or bingo to suplement your teaching. Make sure to show your students that you love your job and learning can be fun!!!
