Classroom Organization

An organized classroom will save you lots of time and energy because it will allow you and your students to know where everything is. It always helpful to hav eyour classroom organized just in case you need a substitute teachers to come in last minute. But sometimes it can be hard to organize your classroom if you get overwhelmed with everything you have to organize How do I organize my materials? How do I organize the students' folders? 

 

These tips and tricks will help you keep you keep you classroom organized!

1. Color code everything. Use the same color for all materials for each subject or unit. For example, color code science binders green and color code math binders blue. If you can, color code assignments and handouts by using colored copy paper. You can also easily use colored sticker dots to color code things.  

 

2. Put everything in binders. Once again, color code these binders according to subject. Use binders to store articles or handouts that you'd like to keep.

 

3. Store items in boxes. Use plastic tubs or cardboard file boxes to store binders, books, worksheets, or pretty much anything else! Be sure to label these boxes with the name of each subject or unit so that students can find what they are looking for.

1. Establish classroom rules and policies. During the first week of school ask your students to suggest class rules and policies. Chances are, the rules that they suggest will be similar to those you have in mind. If not, you can guide them and give suggestions. ("Should we have extra time to get ready for class rotatrions?") Include general classroom standards such as including restroom use and rules against bulling. 

 

2. Establish classroom organization. Go over when and where students should hand in their assignements (ex. at beginning of morning in assignment tray). Go over where students can find their binders etc.

 

3. Go over any special rewards systems of events. Students often like seeing an effect after they have made a cause. It also helps to have a special event because students work hard towards that event.

1. Easy Access Markers

Put everything in a specific place and make them easy to access. Just like this!

2. Organize your week with a planner! If you can't afford a planner, there are plenty of printable templates to choose from just like this one. 

4. Use a daily class schedule. Not only does the schedule help you manage your time, but it helps students mangage their time and become familiar with sticking to schedules. 

3. Make a "No Name" board for homework that is nameless. This lets students act responsbily and look to see if their homework or assignment is there.
